Paph. Paph. Jennifer Stage
(philippinense 'In-Charm' x godefroyae var. leucochilum 'In Charm')

 paphiopedilum or slipper orchid

Registered more than 25 years ago, Paphioedilum Jennifer Stage is an enduring slipper orchid cross with large striking flowers on compact plants. The plant pictured is a first bloom seedling, no larger than a Maudiae type, with one flower and a bud. Subsequent bloomings should produce at least 3  blooms per stem! The flowers should last at least a month.

The charming flowers tend to have a soft yellow-green background colour (from the leucochilum parent), and are stippled and spotted in darker maroon. The clear pouch, enhanced by using var. leucochilum in this remake, is especially attractive, contrasting with the rest of the flower. Paph philippinense widens and elongates the petals and contributes to the higher flower count.

These plants will grow and bloom easily under lights or on the windowsill. Both species parents grow in warm tropical regions at low elevations and will do best

under intermediate to warm growing conditions with high humidity, and brighter light than most Maudiae type slippers.  They will also enjoy good air circulation, and a very slight drying out of the mix, especially during the cooler winter months, as long as sufficient humidity is maintained.

This orchid is fertilized regularly during the growing season, using a standard 'blossom booster' orchid fertilizer and occasionally a higher Nitrogen orchid fertilizer since it is cultivated in a well draining bark mix.

A little powdered dolomitic lime added to the potting mix, or sprinkled on top every six months will also be of benefit. Paphs are generally pest free though they are susceptible to mealy bugs and fungal infections. Good cultivation and close attention will result in healthy plants that will generally grow and bloom easily.
