Registered only in 1997, Paph. Hideki Okuyama is a primary hybrid between malipoense and glanduliferum. In this instance, the compact variant of glanduliferum, wilhelminae, was used, resulting in a compact plant that blooms at about a 20 cm. natural spread. The large flowers are borne on tall 30 cm. stems. This cross seems to combine the best of both parents, resulting in
flowers with dark burgundy striping upon a green tea background. The glossy raspberry jam
staminode and slightly inflated pouch are of course typical of malipoense. Similar to paph. Harold Koopowitz, Hideki Okuyama may be easier to bloom. Its truly novel form and colour combination will be appreciated by those looking for something a little different, and with understated elegance.
