Paphiopedilum Angel Hair 'JEM II'

Paph Angel hair is a cross of St. Swithin x sanderianum. Paph sanderianum is responsible for the wonderfully long petals. Having a combination of the species rothschildianum and philippinense on the other side doesn't hurt either.

The beautifully spotted petals emerge even before the flower starts to open, and grow at a rapid rate to about 20 cms. in length. They continue to elongate at a slower rate, and on this particular blooming reached  a little over 30 cms.(12" ) in length. Other clones can have even longer petal length, depending on how dominant the influence of the sanderianum parent is.

The pouch on this clone is creamy white and very heavily marbled in mahogany-red, which is unusually attractive. The  narrow dorsal sepal, striped in brown, points strongly upwards and is almost matched in size by the synsepal.

This appear to be a vigorous cross that should be easier to bloom than Prince Edward of York, and that can be just as attractive. It typically blooms with three flowers, but some clones have been know to produce up to four.
